Why Take a Speed Awareness Course?

Many motorists attend our courses following a road traffic offence, either before their court appearance or following a conviction.

Before Your Court Appearance

Completing a course before your court date allows you to take practical and positive steps to address your driving behaviour in advance of your appearance.

Your solicitor or barrister may choose to refer to your attendance and the steps you have taken when making submissions to the court on your behalf.

Following a Conviction

We also provide courses for motorists following conviction, including where a solicitor or barrister has recommended further driver training or rehabilitation.

Attendance may provide evidence that you are taking the matter seriously and are making a genuine effort to address your driving behaviour.

Our Experience

From our experience, courts can take into consideration the positive steps a motorist has taken to address their driving behaviour.

Previous attendees of our courses have subsequently avoided disqualification in some cases, while in other cases attendees who had been charged with dangerous driving have ultimately been convicted of the lesser offence of careless driving.

Important: Every case is different and previous outcomes do not indicate or guarantee the outcome of any future case. Completing a course does not guarantee that a charge will be reduced, that a disqualification will be avoided or reduced, or that any particular sentence will be imposed. All decisions are entirely a matter for the court. Irish Advanced Driving does not provide legal advice.

What Happens on the Course?

Your course is carried out on a one-to-one basis and is tailored to your individual driving, the circumstances of your road traffic matter, and the areas that need improvement.

Practical Driving Assessment

Your instructor will assess your driving and identify any habits, decisions or behaviours that may be contributing to unnecessary risk.

Speed & Risk Awareness

The course focuses on improving speed management, observation, hazard awareness, forward planning, judgement and safer decision-making.

Personal Feedback

You will receive direct feedback from your instructor and practical guidance on how to improve your driving habits going forward.

Certificate of Completion

On completion of the course, you will receive documentation confirming your attendance and completion, which you may provide to your solicitor or barrister where appropriate.
